About the city

Wolfsburg is located in the northern state of Lower Saxony, on the banks of the Aller River and Midland Canal, just 80 kilometers from Hannover, the state capital, and 19 kilometers from Brunswick. It has a population of 130,538 (December 2008 census) on a 204-square–kilometer area. The Volkswagen Co, with headquarters in Wolfsburg, is the largest company in Lower Saxony.

Establishment of friendly relations

The city signed a cooperative agreement with Shanghai's Jiading district in October 2007 in an attempt to promote closer communications and cooperation. Wolfsburg is of course home to Volkswagen and is known worldwide for its auto industry, while the Jiading district is home to Shanghai Volkswagen and the Shanghai International Automobile City and shares a similar industrial background. These two have immense potential in economic, cultural, educational and social cooperation, especially in relation to the auto industry.
