The finals of the activity “I am an intangible culture inheritor” were recently held in Shanghai.

A Jiading student, Zhang Ting, won the silver prize and was recognized as “intangible culture inheritor” by giving a demonstration of straw weaving at the final.

Zhang was born in Sichuan province and started to learn straw weaving, a traditional local craft at Xuxing Elementary School five years ago.

Now she is skilled at weaving strings and bags and also served as a volunteer to teach fellow students during the summer holiday.

The activity involved the first and second stage competition before the finals, with competition categories featuring traditional Chinese instruments, dances, operas and craftsmanship.
