Jiading to get blockchain joint research center

The Shanghai International Automobile City Group signed a cooperation deal with the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) to build a blockchain joint research center on Nov 8.

The deal was made during the 2017 Global Blockchain Technology Development Forum – Automobile Industry Special Session held in Jiading district of Shanghai.

The Shanghai International Automobile City Group has played a significant role in the construction of demonstration zones for electric vehicle demonstration and autonomous vehicles, while the CAICT has many achievements in the blockchain sector.

According to the deal, the two parties will combine their strengths to conduct R&D of new energy vehicles and auto smart manufacturing and cooperate in business and talent development.

The cooperation is expect to promote the integration of the blockchain and auto industries as blockchain technology can be applied in both new energy and autonomous vehicle sectors to create new industry models that cover the entire industrial chain from auto design, manufacturing, marketing, and consumption to recycling.

The automobile industry special session, with a theme of "Blockchain – a New Engine for the Auto Industry", brought together experts of both fields to brainstorm about ways to advance mutual development.
