During the ongoing ninth lotus exhibition being held at Guyi Garden in Jiading district, Shanghai, elegant mini lotuses grown in bowls are proving to be one of the stars of the show, attracting a great deal of interest from visitors.

The mini lotuses are also called wanlian, or bowl lotuses, meaning a lotus in the bowls. They are a source of fascination to enthusiasts, due to the fact they have flower diameters of less than 12 centimeters.

The bowl lotuses come in various types, single and double, as well as in a variety of colors. They are suitable for family planting as they are more delicate, but relatively simple to maintain compared with pond-based lotuses.

According to a member of staff in Guyi Garden, bowl lotuses selected by the garden were displayed at the 10th China Flower Expo in Shanghai from May 21 to July 4.

The lotus exhibition in Guyi Garden will run until July 25.
