Establishment of friendly relations

The former Jiading county established friendly relations with the city of Yao in 1981, and they signed the Agreement on Friendship and Cooperation Between Shanghai's Jiading County and Osaka's Yao City on September 13, 1986.

Jiading became a district in October 1992 and formally established a sister-city relationship with Yao on May 15, 1993. In the same year, the district head and city mayor agreed in an exchange of letters that the agreement on friendship and cooperation signed in 1986 will be changed into the Agreement on Friendly Cities Between Shanghai's Jiading District and Osaka's Yao City, with all the provisions of the former agreement continuing to be valid.
