The Han Tianheng Art Museum had its formal opening in the Jiading district of Shanghai, on Oct 24, with 1,136 works on display, all of them donated to the district government by Han Tianheng, master of brush writing, painting and seal engraving.
Work on the art museum commenced on Feb 14, 2011, with an estimated cost of more than ten million yuan, on a 14,000-square–meter site, with exhibition halls, multi-purpose lecture halls, and an arts base, all of them open to the public free of charge.
The Jiading Party secretary, Ma Chunlei, was on hand for the opening ceremony, where he addressed the gathering and expressed his appreciation for Han Tianheng and his family’s contribution to create an art treasure that allows locals to experience art, forming a bridge for cultural exchanges. Ma went on to explain that Jiading, with its 800 years of culture, has also pushed industrial improvements, the quality of life, and harmonious social development, and added that he hopes the art museum will perform many functions, with exhibitions, exchanges, research, and general education to enhance the literacy and cultural lives of people.
The opening ceremony was also the place to announce the establishment of the Han Tianheng Art Foundation and the 9th calligraphy, painting and seal exhibition by Han Tianheng and his students.
