Jiading offers free health checks for residents

( chinadaily.com.cn ) 2014-04-15

Residents in Jiangqiao town, in Shanghai's Jiading district, get free check-ups.

Jiangqiao town, in Shanghai’s Jiading district, began a four-month free check-up project for 23,000 citizens, an increase of 28 percent from last year.

This year, the free check-ups include more services.

In addition to registered villagers who are over 50 years old in the town’s 17 villages, the free check-up, for the first time, covers permanent residents who are over 60 years old. Residents without permanent residence and older than 65 can get access to free check-up as long as they sign a contract with their family doctor.

The check-up fee is covered by the Jiangqiao government and the community health care center.

The check-up project consists of routine examinations, such as blood pressure, breathing, pulse, mouth cavity and vision, and auxiliary examinations, such as routine blood exam, routine urine test, liver function, renal function and FBG (fasting blood-glucose).

In addition, there are services for traditional Chinese medicine guidance and health instruction. After the check-up, the community health care center will input the data into an online resident health record, and keep track of patients with chronic diseases, such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
