As the last event of this year’s racing season, the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) will kick off on Nov 2 at the Shanghai International Circuit of Jiading district.
It will be the third time for Shanghai to host the event. As the second to last event of the eight WEC events this year, the Shanghai race will be more intense and create a great sensation among audiences.
Different from Formula 1, the WEC has more car categories. Races for categories LMP1, LMP2, GTE-PRO and GTE-AM will take place at the same time on the same circuit. The awards will be granted based on time and category. The most popular category is the LMP1 – for the fastest hybrid racecars. Up to 31 cars are participating in the four categories this season, and the competition is very competitive. Former Formula 1 racers, such as Giancarlo Fisichella and Mark Webber, will come to Shanghai to attend the race this year.
