An exhibition of embroidery works from Wenzhou Museum of Zhejiang kicked off at Han Tianheng Art Museum, Jiading district, Shanghai, on Nov 22. A total of 52 works embroidered by well-known masters featuring embroidery styles in different regions are displayed at the exhibition.

One of the key exhibits is an embroidered standing screen from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). According to an expert's estimation, the exhibit is valued at over 10 million yuan ($1.6 million). There are only five or six similar works in the world, which are collected by the National Palace Museum in Taipei.

The exhibition also showcased a work by Miao Wei, embroidery master from Henan. As an embroidered replica of the renowned Chinese painting Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival, the work includes over 800 people, 94 animals, over 100 houses and bridges, 179 trees and 20 boats, demonstrating the prosperity of the North Song Dynasty (960-1127) and the beautiful scenery of the ancient Bian River.

With one year of preparation, the exhibition aims to promote inheritance and development of the traditional art of embroidery, said Wang Yuxin, curator of Wenzhou Museum, at the opening ceremony.
