A new country park will be launched in the northwest of Jiading district, Shanghai, informed a municipal official.
The officer also stated that the new park is among the first one of seven series country parks planned by the Shanghai Municipal Government. The project aims to protect the ecological environment of Shanghai's rural areas as well as promote the tourism industry there.

The park covers an area of 14 square kilometers. It has started the first-stage construction in December 2014 itself, and is expected to complete construction at the end of 2016. It will be open to public in 2017.
According to the design, the park features farmland, country road, forests and water village. The south of the park is planned for ecological farms, while the north is for forests and flowers. Visitors will also enjoy recreational activities such as water sports, and tours to historical sites such as ancient villages and temples.
The term "country park" originated from the UK. Most country parks in the UK were designated in the 1970s, under the Countryside Act 1968. The act was supported by the former Countryside Commission. The purpose of a country park is to provide a place that has a natural, rural atmosphere for visitors who do not necessarily want to go out into the wider countryside for such facilities.
