Quality education a top priority

( chinadaily.com.cn ) 2015-09-08

Education authorities in Jiding district of Shanghai are currently committed to improving the quality of education, local media reported on Sept 6.

Based on local historical and cultural resources, the authorities are planning to establish 100 social practice bases for primary and secondary students. They are also in talks for organizing various cultural activities like tours to art galleries and museums and exhibitions on intangible cultural heritage. They will also introduce classic Chinese poems and music in class curriculum to enrich the students' knowledge of traditional Chinese culture and cultivate their artistic attainment.

In addition to cultural education, local authorities will also focus on scientific knowledge. They said they will cooperate with local research institutes and multinationals to enhance Jiading's primary education. Research institutes will open their laboratories to primary and secondary schools. A panel of experts will be organized to develop suitable scientific and technological courses for teenaged students.

Besides, a number of scientific bases and laboratories will also be built. All these measures aim at whetting young students' aptitude for innovative ideas in science and technology. A primary school affiliated to Jiading No 1 High School, which went operational in September, has made the first move by teaming up with six local research institutes and several companies' R&D centers.

Moreover, Jiading is seeking ways to usher in top education resources by tying up with top-notch universities like East China Normal University and Tongji University, and education groups such as Dulwich College International. Yingyuan Education Group, an organization consisting of local schools, was set up in May to promote sharing of education resource and development of schools.

Officials claim that Jiading will continue to carry out various measures to improve the quality of its education system.
