Since agriculture is always considered a neglected sector, the Waigang town, Jiading district of Shanghai played host to a creative crop-made painting exhibition at the beginning of 2016, local media reported on Jan 14.

The idea of making paintings from crops was not only to show the beautiful art but also to arouse interests in farming among the people.

The event received a large number of painting works by more than 40 teachers and students from three local schools. The organizers selected a total of 26 best paintings and displayed them.

The creators used a variety of crops such as corn, rice, wheat and beans to replace the pigment. They pieced the crops together and pasted them onto a piece of paper so as to form different vivid images featuring flowers, animals, architecture, or abstract patterns.

The organizers said that they expected to remind local people of the importance of farming. They also wanted to call on locals to show gratitude to the land that grows food for them through such a unique exhibition.

The exhibition succeeded in conveying message as some visitors marveled at the exquisite techniques and vividness of the paintings. And some said that the exhibition is quite enlightening and they will learn to cherish food from then on.
