A group of 18 teachers and students from Japan's middle schools visited Jiading district of Shanghai on March 17 to promote cultural exchanges between schools of the two areas, local media reported.

During their four-day visit, they went to the district's Zhenchuan Junior Middle School and Taoliyuan Elementary School. They got an opportunity to experience traditional Chinese culture at the two schools, featuring painting, calligraphy, a musical instrument hulusi or cucurbit flute, and kuaiban, a rhythmic comic talk to the accompaniment of bamboo clappers.
