A group of more than 40 overseas Chinese who now study in Shanghai visited Xiaomiao village in Xuhang town, Jiading district, Shanghai, to gain a better understanding of local rural life.

The students showed strong interest in local traditions and customs. With the help of the villagers, they learned how to make zongzi, glutinous rice stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo leaves, and straw weaving, a traditional technique in Xuhang listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2008.
