The lotus is an iconic flower in Chinese culture, and has been portrayed in Buddhism for thousands of years. It is said that the lotus symbolizes purity of heart and mind, as well as honor and tranquility.
The month-long show will also feature lotus-themed calligraphy and painting exhibitions, a bonsai exhibition, and a flower arranging show.
Guyi Garden was one of the most famous gardens in South China during the Ming Dynasty (AD 1368-1644) and is the largest of the five classic gardens in Shanghai.
