Visitor numbers at scenic spots across Jiading, Shanghai, over the National Day holiday (Oct 1-7) rose by a quarter year-on-year, thanks in part to improved facilities as well as more events and activities held throughout the district.

Over the week-long holiday, some 338,000 visitors packed Jiading's tourist hot spots, 26.71 percent more than the same period in 2015, increasing ticket revenues to 1.2 million yuan ($180,000), up 8.73 percent year-on-year.

Tourism officials said that the increases were due in part to the Jiading Shopping Tourism Festival which runs from Sept 14 to Nov 6, and which has added some 60 activities held around the district.

Among the tourist sites with bumper visitor numbers, Zhouqiao Old Street scenic spot was the most popular. Some 139,000 visitors took to the street, up 64.5 percent year-on-year, thanks to its unique cultural and historic characteristics and picturesque scenery. Flocks of tourists crossed its stone bridges, strolled its famous parks and visited its towers and temples.
