The 2016 Shanghai World Creative Economy Summit was held in Nanxiang town of the city's Jiading district on Oct 29.

The one-day summit aimed to highlight the importance of creative economy and to enhance global cooperation in that sector.

Hundreds of leaders and experts from creative industry associations, universities, and institutes at home and abroad attended the event. Topics discussed included enhancing cooperation among cities focusing on creative economy, sharing city governance experience, integrating intellectual resources of Chinese and foreign creative economy experts, promoting innovation in a creative economy, and so on.

Wang Ronghua, executive president of the Shanghai Creative Industry Association, pointed out that the Internet economy, a combination of information technology and economics, plays an important role in expanding domestic consumption demand, enhancing information exchange and promoting cultural trade.

Nie Linhai, from the department of electronic commerce and informatization of the Ministry of Commerce, shared his views on the relationship between e-commerce and creative economy. Nie considered the two sectors to be complementary, as creative innovation prompts the development of e-commerce and e-commerce serves as a training base for creative industry professionals.

Officials from Belgium's Bruges, guest city of the summit, and Nanxiang town shared their experience in developing emerging industries and preserving traditional culture.

Forums were also organized to explore creative ways to vitalize traditional culture, to manage industrial parks and companies, and to promote multi-regional cooperation in the creative economy.
