Overseas Chinese youngsters immersed in traditional culture in Jiading

A group of 50 overseas Chinese youngsters from countries such as the United Arab Emirates and Spain visited Jiading district of Shanghai on July 6, with the aim of experiencing traditional Chinese culture and gaining a better understanding of China.

The youngsters are participants of a summer camp themed on "Seek roots in China, Meet in Shanghai" jointly launched by State Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and its subsidiaries in Shanghai and Jiading.

The young people toured Jiading Library known as the most beautiful library in Shanghai, where they learned of the functions and convenience of internet-connected modern library.

During their visit to Jiading Confucius Temple, they were introduced the history of ancient China's imperial examination and the time-honored Confucius culture.

To enhance their understanding of traditional Chinese culture, the young people also learned Xuhang straw weaving, an intangible cultural heritage in Jiading, as well as traditional Chinese painting.

Some youngsters said that they are impressed by traditional Chinese culture and the prosperity of China.

The root-seeking summer camp in Jiading is expected to make the young envoys to promote exchanges between Chinese and foreign cultures, improve overseas inheritance of Chinese culture, increase the global exposure of Jiading.
