A play Lovely Ghost performed by Singapore I-Lien Drama Society was put on in Nanxiang town, Jiading district, Shanghai on Oct 29, giving local residents an opportunity to enjoy a top-rated overseas art performance.

The play was adapted from the work written by a Japanese playwright Kazuyo Sakashita. It tells a story of young lovers. The girl is often seen quarelling with her boyfriend. One day, after a fight, she accidentally dies. Upon arriving at heaven, she cannot accept her death. Therefore, the angel brings her back to earth proving her death and giving her a chance to see her boyfriend for the final time.

Meanwhile, her boyfriend is extremely sad because of her death and extremely misses her. After getting back to earth, the girl accompanies her boyfriend as a ghost and communicates with him via a harmonica.

The drama uses black humor to make people reflect on life, death, love, humanity, and farewells.

After the performance, members of Nanxiang Youth Drama Society exchanged ideas with their Singaporean counterparts in hope of learning more from each other.

The Singapore I-Lien Drama Society is an amateur Chinese drama society formed in 1957 by a group of drama enthusiasts in hope of promoting cultural and drama activities. The society has experimented with a wide spectrum of plays which include both master-pieces of foreign playwrights and local plays.

The earlier productions of Chinese classics include "General Hua Mu Lan" in 1958, "The Thunderstorm" in 1959 and "Enmity in the Qing Court" in 1965.
