Dalai Time Museum, located in Jiading district, Shanghai, is a museum of ancient clocks donated in 2015 by Li Dalai, an 85-year-old retired engineer and the first chairman of Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell Co.

The museum covers an area of about 400 square meters and houses over 400 ancient clocks, including pendulum clocks, ball clocks, navigation clocks and astronomical clocks.

As a science geek, Li has always been obsessed with mechanical devices and started collecting ancient clocks after he retired.

But he thought that the mechanical principles and making techniques of ancient clocks were the best tools to popularize science, particularly among children.

Therefore, he decided to donate his collection to build an ancient clock museum in the hope that it would help to nurture future scientists and Nobel Prize winners. He soon became a volunteer at the museum.

With his continuous efforts, the museum has become a science popularization base for teenagers and was listed as a patriotic education base of Jiading district.
