Shanghai's Jiading district has ramped up its increasing efforts to build a city of innovation and vitality.
Jiading -- dubbed as the "Science Satellite City" in Shanghai – is the key area for science and an innovation center in the suburbs and a national advanced area of science and technology. "Science and technology Jiading" has gradually become the resounding business calling card of the district.
The district has established a group of national scientific research institutes and seven universities and plays host to a total of 93 national and provincial research and development platforms.
Pingcheng Road in Juyuan New Area in the district -- a former area of abandoned factories and farms -- boasts its Jiading Innovation and Entrepreneurship Building, which has attracted a large number of science and technology companies.
In addition, Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park Jiading branch has formed an industrial chain -- with automobile parts, optoelectronic information, precision machinery manufacturing as the leading industries. It has attracted more than 400 investors from more than 30 counties and regions in the world to locate their operations there and realized an aggregated investment of more than-$10 billion-.
From January to July this year, the district's strategic emerging industry and four major emerging industries achieved industrial output of 65.11 billion yuan and 27.76 billion yuan, respectively, turning in year-on-year increases of 4.6 and 10.2 percent.
