Sales from 21 key business enterprises in Shanghai's Jiading district reached 1.08 billion yuan ($152 million) during the Golden Week National Day holiday, up by 4.1 percent year-on-year, local officials said.
Major tourist attractions in the district received 286,900 tourists over the holiday from Oct 1 to 7.
Two large commercial complexes opened in Jiading just before the holiday, adding fresh vitality to Jiading's National Day market.
The newly-opened Sunye Shopping Mall generated total sales exceeding 25 million yuan during the week-long holiday.
The sales of the five major commercial complexes monitored by a local government department totaled 121.5 million yuan, up 4.8 percent year-on-year.
Online retail sales also soared during the holiday. JD.com, a major Chinese e-commerce platform, reported a sales volume of 919 million yuan, up 5 percent over the same period last year.
With the continuous updating and innovation of China's consumption offerings, tourism, leisure, culture, and other emerging commercial trends are booming.
As this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, many residents chose to take part in relevant celebrations and activities, as well as watch patriotic movies.
"The box office of National Day holiday this year has increased 170 percent compared with last year. Moviegoers identify strongly with films that celebrate patriotism, heroism, and China's extraordinary journey," said Qian Yihao, a staff member of a local cinema.
Many themed activities were also launched by Jiading's towns and sub-district offices to add a festive touch to the National Day holiday.
