A newly built gateball court in Waigang town, Jiading in Shanghai, was recently opened to the public free of charge, and gateball fans can make appointments on their phones.
The court occupies more than 420 square meters, and is open to the public Monday to Friday.
Introduced from its birthplace in Japan, gateball began to grow in popularity across China as a popular leisure sport among seniors in the 1980s due to its non-contact motion and the simple facilities required to play it.
The activity can help boost brain power and promote the health of players both physically and mentally. The moderate physical exercise is very suitable for middle-aged and old people.
The court requires a reservation one day in advance.
