Jiading district in Shanghai will strive to overcome poverty, according to Lu Fangzhou, Party secretary of Jiading, at a news conference held on July 10.
Lu added that the district will continue to offer assistance to Wuding county in Chuxiong Yi autonomous prefecture, southwest China's Yunnan province, and efforts will be made to improve weak links in economic and social development, aiming to eliminate poverty and establish a long-term mechanism to ensure that poverty does not return.
Jiading and Wuding will join hands to explore new ways to promote consumer-driven poverty alleviation, as well as increase the production and income of impoverished residents, said Lu.
According to statistics, Shanghai and Jiading will launch 218 aid programs in relatively less developed central and western regions this year. Currently, nine counties which have established aid relations with Jiading have eliminated poverty.
Local authorities in Jiading said that they will hold a series of live streaming activities and set up characteristic stores to boost sales of agricultural products from poor areas.
