Jiading's seven A-level scenic spots received more than 348,440 tourists during the seven-day Spring Festival holiday from Feb 11 to 17 and generated a total of 735,140 yuan ($113,822) in ticket sales, according to statistics released by the district's cultural and tourism bureau.
Local tours, short-distance trips near cities, and streets and areas featuring ancient culture were the main tourist draws during the holiday.
The Zhouqiao Old Street Scenic Area took on an entirely new look after months of renovation, attracting many visitors. The area is known for its tranquil atmosphere and Jiangnan (regions south of the Yangtze River) architecture. It features a pagoda, two rivers, three streets, and four bridges.
Officials of the scenic area said that an array of traditional Spring Festival activities was held during the holiday, attracting more than 170,000 visitors.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many people chose to stay put instead of returning to their hometowns so as to reduce the risk of spreading the virus, and Jiading saw explosive growth in consumption in the service sector, including restaurants, entertainment venues, and hotels, during the holiday.
The district's box office exceeded 600,000 yuan from Feb 12 to 17, around 60 percent more than in 2019 and hitting a record high.
