Jiading district in Shanghai has made progress on 43 key projects, with a total investment of more than 30 billion yuan ($4.64 billion), from January to June.
Among the 43 projects, 13 were newly started in the first half of the year, covering artificial intelligent, smart driving, manufacturing, and other industries.
For instance, Hesai Technology, a global leader in 3D sensors, commenced the construction of its "super" factory in the core area of Jiading Industrial Zone on May 28, covering an area of 2.67 hectares.
The factory will undertake the research and development, production, vehicle specification testing, as well as other functional modules of LiDAR, a remote sensing method that stands for light detection and ranging, which uses light to measure distance.
The factory will also include advanced production lines and is expected to start production in 2022.
The construction of the factory has received support from Jiading Industrial Zone and Jiading district, said a manager of Hesai Technology.
In addition to the AI and smart driving industries, Jiading district has also bolstered its manufacturing industry. A total of eight projects, including one by Radiall Group, have been put into production, covering industries like smart manufacturing, smart communication, and precision medicine.
Radiall's R&D and production center covers an area of 1.33 hectares, with an investment of 280 million yuan. To date, the production line, as well as over 300 production employees and operation teams have moved into the new factory.
After being put into production, Radiall Electronics (Shanghai) Co's production capacity will be doubled. Its annual output value is expected to reach 600 million yuan after it reaches production in 2025.
