Fifteen enterprises in Jiading district were included in the lists of top 100 foreign-invested enterprises in Shanghai, which was released by the Shanghai Foreign Investment Association on Sept 28.
The companies were ranked according to their operating income, total value of import and export, tax contribution, and employment created.
SAIC Volkswagen Automotive Co, a Sino-German joint venture in Jiading district, topped the list for tax contribution.
Schindler China, a provider of elevators and escalators located in Jiading district, was listed 5th in terms of creating employment opportunities.
"Shanghai boasts talents with abilities and innovation who will contribute to the production of safe products," said Xi Yun, manager of human resources of Schindler China.
Volvo Cars was placed 9th on the list for tax contribution, 38th on the list for import and export, and 61st on the list for operating revenue.
Jiading has been beefing up its efforts to make use of foreign investment since the beginning of this year.
As of this year, the contracted use of foreign investment in the district stands at $1.88 billion. This includes $822 million from 281 newly registered foreign direct invested enterprises, which accounted for 43.6 percent of the total, as well as $1.06 billion of increased investment from 98 projects.
