A driverless car experience event was held at Shanghai International Automobile City in Jiading district on Nov 27.
During the event, people were able to call driverless vehicles using an app on their cell phone called "Luobo Kuaipao".
The driverless vehicles can automatically identify traffic lights, avoid pedestrians and other vehicles, as well as offer comfortable rides to passengers.
Since Sept 12, people have been able to experience driverless vehicles using the app from 9 am to 11 pm every day. Currently the cars are available on a 217-kilometer-long road covering an 89-square-kilometer area of the district's Anting town, including at about 100 boarding points spanning residential areas, commercial areas, subway stations, and bus stations.
As a pioneer for driverless vehicles in China, SIAC has been bolstering its efforts to develop the industry and promote its science and technology. It has over 200 vehicles licensed as intelligent connected vehicles for road testing, with 463 km of roads available for testing.
