Rows of newly installed greenhouse sheds can be found at the vegetable field facilities improvement project in Zhoujing village in Waigang town, Shanghai's Jiading district.
Different from traditional sheds that can blow away easily, the newly installed greenhouse sheds are firm and boast a double layer steel frame structure, said a worker of the field.
Covered with silver heat insulation film in winter, the new sheds can protect vegetable plants from damage caused by low temperature. During the summer, it is covered with black shading nets that protect vegetables from excessive heat.
The sheds adopt fertilizer equipment that integrates watering and fertilizing.
According to the worker, the new sheds at the vegetable field facilities improvement project utilize automated management to adjust temperature and humidity, which has reduced costs for human labor.
Zhoujing village is home to over 33.33 hectares of vegetable fields that are equipped with 60 greenhouse sheds. They are mainly used for planting high-quality vegetables like lettuce.
The daily production of vegetables on the fields with installed facilities is expected to reach 5 to 6 tons when all the greenhouse sheds are put into use.
