Shanghai prepares for Typhoon Hinnamnor

( english.jiading.gov.cn ) 2022-09-05

Shanghai authorities upgraded the emergency response for Typhoon Hinnamnor on Monday as rain continued to pour down on the city.

The city's subway departments said they will impose speed limits or suspend services depending on the circumstances.

A number of scenic spots in the city, including Zhujiajiao and Haiwan forest parks, have been closed due to safety concerns.

Incoming flights to Shanghai's Pudong Airport have been affected by the typhoon, but the operations of Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and railway station remain normal.

All ferry services, except for the Changheng ferry, were also suspended starting Sunday.

Hinnamnor is expected to be about 300 km from the coastline of Shanghai at around 2pm Monday afternoon. It will move northeastward at the speed of 25-30 km per hour with weakening intensity, according to the forecast.

China's national observatory renewed a yellow alert for Hinnamnor on Monday.

The country has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red being the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue.

Zheng Zheng contributed to the story.
