German native Kai Pflug, who has lived in Shanghai for more than 10 years, has photographed more than 370 different species of birds.
He has resided in a neighborhood in Jiangqiao town, Jiading district for 12 years and has captured 25 different bird species in his neighborhood alone.
The months of April, May, September, and October are ideal for bird watching. According to Pflug, this is the time of year when birds that breed in the north migrate through Shanghai.
Pflug has a keen interest in birds despite not being a bird researcher. He wants to capture images of the various birds for public display.
In recent years, the urban development has been challenging birds' living spaces, but the newly built parks and green spaces are offering better habitats for birds, Pflug said.
"There are some places in Jiangqiao town that boast a better ecological environment, so I take photos of birds in those places a lot," Pflug added.
