Sam's Club, the high-end membership store of world retail giant Walmart Inc, is expected to open its first store in Jiading district, Shanghai in October.
The new store, which is currently under construction, has completed civil works and started its decoration stage, according to its constructors.
The Jiading store will be Sam's Club's second store to open in Shanghai this year, showing the foreign retail giant's confidence in the local market.
It is located in Small Sheep Industrial Park in Nanxiang town, Jiading district, and is being constructed by Shanghai Small Sheep Industry Co.
With a total investment of 450 million yuan ($65.44 million), the new store covers an area of 1.67 hectares, has a construction area of 33,000 square meters, and boasts 1,300 parking spaces.
"This store is expected to achieve annual sales of more than 2 billion yuan and will greatly benefit residents living in the surrounding area after completion," said Yu Liming, the person in charge of the on-site construction.
