Shanghai's Jiading district posted robust consumption growth during the five-day May Day holiday that ended Wednesday as many businesses across sectors made all-out efforts to tap into pent-up consumer demands.
According to monitoring data from the district's commission of commerce, from April 28 to May 2, the sales of 22 key commercial and trade enterprises in the district reached 959 million yuan ($138.71 million).
During this year's May Day holiday, the Shanghai Double Five Shopping Festival and the 2023 Jiading Shopping Festival got underway in the district and major commercial complexes in Jiading rolled out a series of promotional consumption activities, which attracted many consumers.
During the holiday, the total sales of eight major commercial complexes in Jiading amounted to more than 235 million yuan. Among them, the Jiating Club saw a single-day consumer flow of nearly 60,000, exceeding the same-period figure of 57,000 in 2019.
Relying on its top-floor starry sky runway and its promotional event, which combined consumption, tourism and sports, the Nanxiang INCITY MEGA's single-day consumer flow during the holiday was nearly 95,000, far exceeding the figure of 60,000 during this year's Spring Festival.
