Lu Fangzhou, Party secretary of Shanghai's Jiading district, met with Shuichi Akamatsu, consul general of Japan in Shanghai, on May 10.
Lu welcomed Akamatsu and his delegation on behalf of the district Party committee and the local government, and provided a detailed introduction on Jiading's cultural and historical significance, its economic and social development and its status as an international center for the automotive industry and modern technology.
Lu said that Jiading established a friendly relationship with Osaka's Yao city in 1986 and has been maintaining exchanges with Okayama prefecture's Ikeda city, Kagoshima prefecture's Kirishima city and Gunma prefecture's Ota city.
The Party secretary also spoke about Jiading's development goals, which include promoting high-quality development, creating a high-quality living environment and implementing high-efficiency governance. He expressed hope for enhanced personnel and cultural exchanges, as well as deeper collaboration in the automotive industry, auto import and export and smart networks.
He welcomed more Japanese companies to participate in Jiading's urban construction, and to leverage Japan's advanced concepts in city planning and development to build a future-oriented new area and create a more convenient life for citizens.
Akamatsu said that China and Japan enjoy close relations and that China's rapid economic development has fostered stable ties between the two countries. He noted that Jiading provided strong support and assistance to local Japanese enterprises during the COVID-19 pandemic, and that they appreciate Jiading's business-friendly environment.
He expressed hope that Japan and Jiading will continue to maintain friendly exchanges, strengthen personnel interactions and cultural and youth exchanges and boost cooperation in such areas as automotive, digital economy, healthcare consumption, aging population and medical industry to promote mutual economic development and benefit citizens of both countries.
Lu Zufang, member of the Jiading district Party committee and deputy head of Jiading, also attended the meeting.
