The Continental Temic Shanghai Plant Phase IV project recently broke ground in the Jiading Industrial Zone in Shanghai's Jiading district. It is scheduled to be operated in the second half of 2025.
The project, with a plant area of about 28,000 square meters (33,487 square yards), includes a two-story production workshop and a fully automatic intelligent warehouse.
The factory is scheduled to be outfitted with state-of-the-art technologies, including a digital information system, intelligent energy management system, advanced safety and fire protection system, as well as an automatic three-dimensional storage system, aiming to establish itself as a pioneering example of a smart factory.
"At present, China is developing strongly in the fields of new energy vehicles and autonomous driving, and we hope to provide more innovative solutions for the industry in these fields with our core competitiveness," said Ralf Luch, general manager of Continental Temic Shanghai Plant, adding that after the completion of the project, it will mainly produce products related to safety and dynamic control and autonomous driving.
Continental Group has a history of more than 150 years. Currently, three of every four new vehicles produced worldwide are equipped with components, systems, and solutions from Continental Group.
With a total construction area of more than 70,000 square meters, the Continental Temic Shanghai Plant, who settled in Jiading Industrial Zone in 2001, has become one of the most significant parts production bases of Continental Group in China. It produces a brake anti-lock braking system, electronic stability control system, brake-by-wire system, millimeter-wave radars, multi-function and surround view cameras.
Situ Che, CEO of Continental Group, emphasized that the implementation of the fourth-phase expansion project would not only solidify the company's dominant position in the industry but also inject a strong impetus into the local automotive industry's transition toward the "new four modernizations" of electrification, connectivity, intelligence, and sharing.
