Jiading district in Shanghai is experiencing significant growth in its high-performance medical equipment and precision medicine industry.
From January to August of this year, the district's total output in the industry reached 15.85 billion yuan ($2.17 billion), a 7 percent increase from the previous year. It is expected to surpass 25.1 billion yuan by the end of the year.
The Shanghai Jiading Advanced Technology Innovation and Incubation Center, established in 2010, has played a crucial role in this growth. As a national science and technology business incubator for biomedicine, the center focuses on promoting the transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements, as well as business incubation. With over 300 enterprises and a 27,000-square-meter incubation space, it has become an integral part of Shanghai's health service industry.
The center provides start-ups and R&D teams with public R&D space and various technical services, creating an environment conducive to innovation and development in the field of biomedicine. Start-ups like Shanghai Taitool Bioscience have benefited greatly from the center's resources. General Manager Xu Dafeng praised the laboratory facilities and equipment, noting that they help save money in the early stages of starting a business.
The incubation center has also established 19 public technical service platforms, including molecular and cell platforms, biotechnology innovation laboratories, and more. These platforms allow start-ups to share equipment and collaborate on technical advancements, reducing research and development costs.
As a result of these initiatives, more industry leaders have set up operations in the district, bringing innovative technologies and products and contributing to the growth and development of Jiading's biomedicine sector.
