From Sept 20 to 22, the inaugural Tour of Shanghai New Cities cycling race will take place across five "new cities" in Shanghai: Jiading, Qingpu, Songjiang, Fengxian, and Nanhui. This marks the first time the cities have collaborated in hosting a major sporting event, attracting 20 professional cycling teams from countries including China, France, and the UAE.
The event begins on Sept 20 in Jiading New City and features a 115-kilometer route starting from the Shanghai International Circuit and passing landmarks such as Shanghai Citizens Sports Park and Jiading Library, showcasing Jiading's modern charm and traditional culture.
The second stage, to be held on Sept 21, runs from Qingpu New City to Songjiang New City, covering approximately 87.2 kilometers and passing through attractions like Zhujiajiao Ancient Town and Sheshan National Forest Park. The third stage, to be held on Sept 22, spans from Fengxian New City to Nanhui New City, covering about 96.5 kilometers and featuring landmarks like Shanghai Fish and Dishui Lake. The final day also includes a 38-kilometer public cycling event and a carnival with brand displays, food, and performances at Dishui Lake.
Shanghai-born track cyclist and Olympic champion Zhong Tianshi will serve as the event's "Super Ambassador", enhancing its international appeal.
This event, which is a highlight of the inaugural Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season, aims to promote the integration of culture, sports, and tourism in the new cities, as well as stimulate consumption in sectors such as hotels and restaurants. It aims to set a new standard for domestic cycling events, driving industry development and showcasing the sport's charm and technological aspects.
