The Jiading Confucian Temple, initially built in 1219 during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), is set to reopen to the public in late September following comprehensive renovations that began in May last year.
The renovations have expanded the temple's functions, focusing on exhibitions and cultural experiences. The West Wing, East Wing, and Minglun Hall will serve as the main exhibition spaces, offering a detailed interpretation of the imperial examination system. The total exhibition area of the Shanghai Chinese Imperial Examination Museum now spans 2,270 square meters, exploring the evolution of the imperial examination system and its societal impacts.
Dacheng Hall, the temple's main building, will feature displays related to Confucius and his life and include an area for blessing activities, allowing visitors to engage in cultural practices such as making wishes and offering prayers.
Efforts have been made to ensure the preservation of cultural relics in a scientific manner. Customized storage environments with integrated lighting, anti-seismic design, and constant temperature and humidity controls have been implemented to protect the artifacts.
Additionally, the Danghu Academy located within the temple has introduced a new social education experience area and a smart exhibition area, using advanced digital technology to enhance its educational potential. The temple also includes facilities such as cultural and creative shops, a visitor service center, VIP rooms, and a mother and baby room, ensuring a comprehensive service experience for visitors.
