Yum China opened its largest self-built Supply Chain Management Center in Jiading district, Shanghai, on Sept 24.
The state-of-the-art facility, covering 61,000 square meters, took two years and three months to complete. It incorporates advanced technologies such as automated logistics, ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems), and rooftop distributed photovoltaic systems. This center aims to enhance efficiency, intelligence, and sustainability in supply chain operations.
"This center not only meets the supply chain needs of Yum China's brands in East China but also supports nationwide cold chain integration, marking a significant advancement in our supply chain management," said CEO of Yum China Joey Wat at the launch event.
The management center features ambient storage, low-temperature cold chain facilities, and office spaces. Its 12-layer ASRS zone provides approximately 9,000 pallet positions within a 2,500 sq m area, boosting space utilization by over 20 percent. The ASRS system enhances operational efficiency through automatic identification, positioning, and storage of goods.
By year-end, the center will introduce four-way car dense storage systems, allowing employees to focus on higher-value tasks. The facility also includes 1.5 megawatts of rooftop photovoltaic panels, expected to generate over 1.5 million kilowatt-hours annually, significantly offsetting energy consumption. Additionally, the site employs a sponge city design for water conservation and improved drainage.
Since entering China 37 years ago, Yum China has established a comprehensive supply chain system. As of August, it operates 33 logistics centers nationwide, covering over 1,700 towns and cities.
