As winter sets in, ginkgo trees across Shanghai have donned their golden attire. The city's oldest ginkgo, located in Anting Ancient Tree Park, has now entered its peak viewing season and is a must-see attraction.
The ancient ginkgo tree is the oldest tree in Shanghai's ancient tree registry, boasting a history of over 1,200 years. Standing 27 meters tall with a trunk diameter of 6.65 meters and a crown spread of 21 meters, it remains vibrant and awe-inspiring.
From a distance, the millennia-old ginkgo appears lush and expansive, its massive canopy spreading like a golden umbrella. Upon closer inspection, the once green leaves have turned a vivid yellow, and in the gentle breeze, they flutter like butterflies, bringing a quiet beauty to the park.
The park is constantly bustling with visitors, even on workdays. Tourists, drawn by the tree's fame, either stand in awe, admiring the majestic presence of the ancient tree, or capture the stunning scenery with cameras and smartphones.
Shanghai local Zhu Hongxing made a special trip from Pudong via Metro Line 11. Equipped with a drone and a pocket camera, he explained, "The park is crowded on weekends, so I chose to come on Friday to fully appreciate the beauty of this ancient ginkgo. I'm taking plenty of photos."
