Jiading district in Shanghai reported strong economic performance in 2024, with its GDP growing by approximately 5 percent, according to the district's annual government work report delivered on Jan 7.
The district's economic stability and recovery were evident across various sectors. The total industrial output value of enterprises above a designated size reached 466 billion yuan ($63.56 billion), a year-on-year increase of over 2 percent.
Jiading has been fostering new drivers of growth, with the district's overall research and development expenditures expected to account for 5.8 percent of its GDP.
Strategic emerging industries, including the automobile, integrated circuits, and biomedicine, achieved a total output value of 165 billion yuan, a growth of 4 percent. These three key industries collectively generated an output of 326.2 billion yuan, up 4.7 percent.
Residents of Jiading have also experienced improvements in their quality of life, with the district's per capita disposable income projected to reach 75,711 yuan.
The district's environmental efforts have resulted in an air quality excellence rate of 88.4 percent and it has expanded its urban green spaces, with three new city parks added in 2024, bringing the total number to 44.
