Shanghai Hydrogen Propulsion Technology (SHPT), based in Jiading district, Shanghai, is spearheading a green transformation in logistics for Germany's Continental Group.
Their collaboration has seen logistics vehicles cover over 42,000 kilometers with a 50-percent reduction in carbon emissions, benefiting two suppliers and 10 automotive companies within Continental's subgroup.
Continental Group is committed to decarbonizing transportation, addressing challenges related to efficiency and cost, and alleviating range anxiety associated with new energy vehicles.
In Changshu, Jiangsu province, Continental Group adopted a co-creation model involving multiple stakeholders to establish a sustainable transportation ecosystem. Central to this initiative is the use of an 18-metric-ton fuel cell logistics vehicle, developed with SHPT's support, operating between Changshu and Wuxi, Jiangsu province. Since October 2023, this project has improved transportation efficiency by 30 percent and cut carbon emissions by 50 percent.
The project's success is attributed to the safety and reliability of vehicles equipped with SHPT's advanced fuel cell systems, known for their high performance and adaptability. This initiative demonstrates the feasibility of hydrogen energy in the transportation of automotive parts, offering a green logistics solution.
SHPT's 18-metric-ton and 49-metric-ton fuel cell trucks are now part of the logistics systems of nearly 10 companies, including Continental, SAIC Motor, and Geely.
For long-distance heavy-load scenarios, SHPT has developed a high-power fuel cell system, providing 500-1,000 kilometers of range for 49-metric-ton trucks. This addresses both range anxiety and the high costs and emissions of traditional trucks. With supportive policies and competitive costs, these trucks offer a promising alternative to traditional models.
