Peak season for bayberry picking has arrived at Lijiang Ecological Park in Shanghai's Jiading district, home to the renowned Biqi bayberry variety.
Introduced from Cixi, Zhejiang province, a decade ago, the Biqi bayberry is celebrated for its distinctive dark purple-black hue and exquisite flavor.
Zhou Bingxiang, a staff member at the park, describes the Biqi bayberry as one of China's top four bayberry varieties. "Its medium-to-small size, tender flesh, and juicy, sweet-tart taste make it a regional favorite," said Zhou.
The park's orchard is now in full bloom. In early to mid-June, the bayberries are known for their bright, wild tang and crisp texture. As the season progresses into late June, the fruit becomes plump and tender, with a honey-like sweetness and a lively hint of tartness.
Lijiang Ecological Park, located at No 5088 Shuangzhu Road, Jiading Industrial Zone, invites visitors to enjoy this seasonal treat from now until June 22, with daily hours from 10 am to 5 pm. Tickets are available via the "Lijiang Farmhouse" WeChat account or by calling 021-59968688.
