The 25th Shanghai Malu Grape Culture Festival kicked off on July 5 at the Malu Grape Theme Park in the Jiading district of Shanghai.

The annual festival celebrates Jiading's popular local specialties as they hit the market every summer.

This year, the festival is a highlight of the 2025 Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season and marks the beginning of the Jiading District Tourism Festival's summer season.

Two exciting new grape varieties have made their debut at the event: Malu No 5, known for its thin skin and sweet, crisp flesh and Malu No 6, celebrated for its juicy texture and rich aroma.

Both varieties were developed by the Shanghai Malu Grape Research Institute.

The festival also launched the Future Orchard project. In collaboration with Tongji University and tech companies, this initiative aims to revolutionize vineyard management through smart technology.

Four planting bases under the project have already implemented the information of things and intelligent control systems, setting a foundation for the digital transformation of the grape industry.

Beyond grapes, the festival integrates cultural tourism with themed study tours and activities, enhancing the region's artistic vitality.

Highlights include the Grape Charm and Craftsmanship tour — linking art and agriculture — and the Art Journey, offering immersive cultural experiences by Yuanxiang Lake.
