Jiading's night comes alive with light and flavor

2025-10-11

The second Shanghai International Light Festival has transformed the Yuanxiang Cultural Loop in Jiading district into a dazzling dreamscape with art installations, light markets, and immersive shows.

Scott, a foreign teacher at Shanghai Normal University Tianhua College, captured the shimmering scene at Yuanxiang Lake Park with great enthusiasm. The 22.9-hectare park has been transformed into an open-air playground of light, where music, color, and creativity come together to immerse visitors in a cinematic atmosphere.

In front of Shanghai Poly Grand Theatre, the light garden captured Scott's attention. Flowing light beams, hydrangeas, and pink muhly grass shaped a dreamlike tableau he likened to Monet's Water Lilies brought to life at night.

At the night market, Scott explored Jiading district's culinary heritage, observing artisans as they prepared Xuhang steamed cakes with precise, flowing movements. Sampling other local specialties, he experienced the city's authentic flavors firsthand and picked up treats to share with family and friends.

At Xiyunlou commercial street, warm lanterns, bustling streets, Shanghai-style facades, and the aroma of fiery hotpot showcased Jiading district's lively everyday charm. Open through early November, the sub-venue offers visitors an unforgettable blend of art, culture, and gastronomy, turning a night out into a fully immersive urban experience.
