The eighth Scientific Technology Fair for the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) has kicked off in Shanghai's Jiading district, showcasing a wide range of technological innovations from Oct 15 to 17 at the Shanghai Automobile Exhibition Center.

At the opening ceremony, Xiao Wengao, Party secretary of Jiading, emphasized the YRD's status as a dynamic hub for economic growth and innovation in China.

Since 2018, the fair has expanded its network and impact, becoming a key platform for technology transfer and regional collaboration. Xiao reaffirmed Jiading's commitment to working closely with neighboring cities to enhance innovation capabilities.

A highlight of the opening ceremony was the award presentation for the third Jiading District Future Industries Disruptive Technology Competition. This year, 22 projects stood out for their innovation and market readiness, including high-performance photonic chips for AI and smart communication terminals.

The event also celebrated the launch of the Shanghai Xihe Optics Valley incubator, a new hub aimed at transforming photonics research into market-ready products. This incubator will leverage Jiading's technological resources to foster an integrated ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Several high-impact projects were signed during the ceremony, underscoring the fair's role as a bridge between science and industry in the YRD. The fair also introduced a "Revealing the List" initiative, connecting enterprises, government, and academic institutions to solve over 680 technical challenges.

Throughout the fair, more than 1,000 cutting-edge technologies in areas like advanced materials, intelligent manufacturing, and aerospace were on display. These innovations highlighted the fair's importance as a platform for collaboration among academia, industry, and government in the YRD.

Since its inception, the fair has supported over 4,000 institutions and companies, facilitating technology transfers worth more than 1.7 billion yuan ($238.37 million) through nearly 400 professional forums and events. This year, the fair continues to build on this success, fostering a collaborative ecosystem that drives the integration of technological and industrial innovation in the region.
