Shanghai is taking a big step to boost its economy and technology sector by launching more innovation zones linked to the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ). It aims to extend the advantages of FTZ policies throughout the city and promote distinct industrial development within each zone.
Jiading district is one of the key areas included in this expansion. The Jiading Linked Innovation Zone covers about 49.1 square kilometers and includes the northern Jiading Industrial Zone, as well as the southern parts of Malu, Nanxiang, and Jiangqiao towns, along with the western areas of Anting and Waigang towns. The zone's main focus will be on advancing the intelligent and connected new energy vehicle industry.
The plan aims to accelerate the research and development of smart technologies by utilizing a platform for training autonomous driving systems. This will enhance the creation of better algorithms and products for self-driving cars. Moreover, the zone intends to expand the operational areas for these vehicles, eventually enabling them to function commercially on open roads throughout the city and beyond.
In addition, Jiading will test various smart applications, such as intelligent taxis, unmanned minibuses, autonomous sanitation vehicles, unmanned delivery services, and smart parking solutions. These efforts aim to position Jiading as a leader in smart transportation.
This expansion aligns with Shanghai's broader strategy to maximize its FTZ policies by encouraging innovation and collaboration throughout the city, ultimately generating new economic opportunities and promoting sustainable growth.
