An American teacher and student delegation recently participated in immersive cultural activities at Tianhua College of Shanghai Normal University through the Young Envoys Scholarship (YES) Program.
Initiated by the China Education Association for International Exchange, the program aims to foster youth friendships and enhance cross-cultural understanding between China and other countries.
The one-day experience in Shanghai's Jiading district integrated modern technology and traditional Jiangnan culture. The delegation first interacted with intelligent Unitree robots, which amazed Harrison with their lifelike movements, offering him a deeper understanding of China's tech innovation.

The group then experienced authentic traditional Chinese culture, including hanfu (traditional Chinese attire), folk music performances and Chinese calligraphy. US student Quincy shared that practicing calligraphy was challenging but rewarding, requiring great concentration.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited Jiading's planning exhibition hall, museum, and ancient Confucian Temple, witnessing the district's rapid urban development and profound historical heritage.
Jenna, a former foreign teacher at Tianhua College who revisited Jiading after a decade, spoke highly of the city's stunning changes and cherished her cross-cultural bond with China. "Jiading's development has exceeded all my expectations," she said.
College official Zhang Yun said the activities promote mutual growth and Sino-US youth communication. The delegation will continue its tour to explore more of Shanghai's diverse charms.
