As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, Xiangyue Huating Resort in Shanghai's Jiading district is rolling out a series of festive activities that blend classic Chinese folk customs with bucolic experiences, offering an ideal holiday getaway for visitors of all ages.
On the lake, visitors can take part in traditional dragon boat rowing, the festival's most iconic activity. In addition to dragon boats, the resort offers kayaks, pedal boats, and go-kart boats, allowing guests to enjoy scenic lake excursions and a variety of water-based activities.
A garden folk fair will also be held on site. Guests can try their hand at "shooting the five poisons," a traditional folk game believed to ward off misfortune and promote good health. Modern outdoor attractions, including trampolines and jungle adventure courses, further combine traditional festival culture with contemporary recreation.
A countryside market will feature fresh local farm produce, specialty pastries, and cultural and creative products. Visitors can also make farmhouse-style zongzi, the festival's signature delicacy, as well as wormwood bouquets and hand-painted round fans, offering a hands-on introduction to traditional crafts and cultural heritage.
