The Jiading Future Industries Fund, established to develop five key future industries in Shanghai's Jiading district, has completed its filing with the Asset Management Association of China, marking the start of its formal operations.
With a total size of 800 million yuan ($111 million), the government-guided, market-oriented fund will focus on five areas: future intelligence, future energy, future materials, future health, and future space. Its first phase will be 200 million yuan.
The fund will combine sub-fund investments with direct investment, focusing on early-stage projects featuring breakthrough technologies and strong growth potential. It aims to provide long-term capital for technologies that may take years to move from research to commercial use.
The new fund also fills a gap in Jiading's investment system. Its strategic emerging industries fund focuses on larger, more mature companies, while its venture capital guidance fund attracts social capital for innovation projects. The future industries fund will target the earliest stage, supporting companies in the "0-to-1" phase.
Jiading has a strong industrial base. In the first half of 2026, its strategic emerging industries generated 917 billion yuan in output, up 8.7 percent year on year and accounting for 41.4 percent of the output of major industrial enterprises.
Following the fund's registration, Jiading Venture Capital will begin selecting its first batch of sub-funds and reviewing direct investment projects. The fund will support concept validation, incubation, and commercialization to help turn research results into new products and industries.
It will also seek to attract sub-funds from Shanghai's municipal future industries fund to Jiading, further supporting the development of future industries.
